I am studying how guided journals can support someone's psychological development, personal growth, and capacity for wisdom. I'm looking for 10-20 people who are interested in completing some assessments and guided journals!

What Is Involved?

The study itself is pretty simple - complete some assessments, complete some guided journals, and then do the assessments again!

Part 1: Intake Assessment

At the beginning of the study, you will complete three psychological assessments and answer a few survey questions.

Part 2: Guided Journals

You will receive complementary copies of six guided journaling products and will complete them on your own time. This will take 6-10 weeks, depending on the amount of time you have.

Part 3: Final Assessment

You will complete the same three assessments they did in the intake, and answer some questions about their experiences. We'll also schedule a coaching session where I will debrief you about the results of the assessments, and where we'll be able to discuss the impact of the journaling.

What's In It For You?
  • Complementary copies of guided journals ($150 value)
  • Report with results of assessments ($500 value)
  • Complementary coaching session ($200 value)

... and, if the guided journals have the impact I hope they'll have, you will experience rare kinds of psychological growth that will make you more effective, more wise, and more in tune with your true self.

The Guided Journals You'll Complete:
  1. "Go To Yourself: A Guided Journal for Self-Discovery and Purpose"
  2. "All The Feels: A Guided Journal for Emotional Intelligence"
  3. "Thinking With Integrity: A Guided Workbook for Critical Thinking Under Pressure"
  4. "Wise Mind: A Guided Journal for Wisdom and Clarity"
  5. "Active Intellect: A Guided Journal for Reflective Practice"
  6. "Peacemaker: A Guided Journal for Conflict Resolution and Harmony"

The Underlying Science

Self-Actualization and Potential

Abraham Maslow’s research on self-actualization was one of the first attempts in psychology to describe human potential. Maslow proposed that after survival and social needs are met, people are motivated toward fulfillment, culminating in "self-actualization".

Since Maslow's pioneering work, researchers have discovered that “self-actualization” is not just a feeling of fulfillment, but a later stage of adult development called postformal development. This kind of growth is associated with complex perspective-taking, emotional regulation, better relationships, and wisdom.

The Effectiveness of Guided Journals

Research has shown that people at postformal stages of development have specific mental, emotional, and relational capacities. Traditionally, these capacities are catalyzed through therapy, coaching, and advanced education. However, these formats are expensive, time-intensive, and available primarily through one-to-one formats.

But over the last two decades, studies have shown that guided journals can have incredible impacts on well-being and psychological growth. This makes them viable alternatives to therapy and coaching.

So, I developed a series of guided journals to allow people to achieve postformal development in an affordable and accessible way. These journals mimic the kinds of interactions someone would have with a professional coach at a fraction of the cost.
